The word "Michman" - what does it even mean?

Michman - the lowest officer rank that was (and still is) used in the navy and merchant fleets of some countries.

The word itself was likely derived from the English "midshipman".

Michmans were typically uneducated and sometimes even enlisted low ranking officers tasked with routine duties, such as maintaining and operating various technical systems, managing provisions and assisting higher ranking officers in their day-to-day activities, relieving them for more important things.

In some countries the rank of michman was granted to highly experienced non-officers, so michmans were sometimes older in age than much higher ranking officers.

In short, on a ship - if it is tedious and boring, but still requires some skill - michman is the one to do it. Hence, why the name was chosen for this project. We believe it is quite fitting.
